About Sui
Sui (SUI) is a high-performance Layer 1 blockchain launched in May 2023 by Mysten Labs, a team of former Meta/Facebook engineers who previously worked on the Diem (Libra) project. Sui is built on the Move programming language and a unique object-centric data model that allows independent transactions to execute in parallel, enabling low-latency confirmation and very high throughput for consumer-grade applications. SUI is used for gas, staking, and on-chain governance.
Sui validators run a delegated proof-of-stake consensus with epoch-based committee changes. Simple object transfers can bypass full consensus and finalise in roughly half a second through a fast path, while transactions that touch shared objects go through Narwhal/Bullshark consensus. SUI has a maximum supply of 10 billion tokens, with a portion of gas fees earmarked for a long-term storage fund that pays for on-chain state.
The Sui ecosystem includes DEXs (Cetus, Aftermath, Turbos), lending and stablecoin protocols, a growing list of consumer and gaming applications, and zkLogin, a primitive that lets users access Sui accounts via familiar Web2 logins. The Sui Foundation funds development and grants, and Sui's developer tooling, indexers, and SDKs support both Move-native and JavaScript builders.
