About Shiba Inu
Shiba Inu (SHIB) is an Ethereum-based meme cryptocurrency launched in August 2020 by an anonymous developer known as Ryoshi. Originally positioned as the 'Dogecoin killer', SHIB grew from a community-driven token into the centre of a broader ecosystem that includes the ShibaSwap decentralized exchange, the LEASH and BONE companion tokens, the SHIB-themed metaverse project, and Shibarium, a dedicated Layer 2.
SHIB is an ERC-20 token with an initial supply of one quadrillion, half of which was famously sent to Vitalik Buterin and partially burned, partially donated to charity. The Shiba Inu ecosystem now uses BONE for governance and as Shibarium's gas token, with SHIB itself being progressively burned through ecosystem fees and dedicated burn campaigns that gradually reduce circulating supply over time.
The SHIB ecosystem includes ShibaSwap (DEX, staking, and farming), Shibarium (an EVM-compatible Layer 2 secured by Ethereum), the SHI stablecoin and TREAT reward-token roadmap, and an active grassroots community known as the 'SHIB Army'. SHIB itself is supported by virtually every major exchange and a wide range of consumer wallets and payment processors.
